HI-4012 LEAD/SULPHATE HALF CELL ISE
HI-4012
The HI-4012 is ideal to be used for the determination of lead ions in plating baths, a variety of environmental monitoring, and as an indicator for titrations.
Hanna’s solid state half-cell ISEs are designed for use with the HI-5315 reference half-cell.
The HI-4012 is a solid state, half-cell ion selective electrode (ISE) for the determination of lead (Pb2+) in solution and indicator for sulphate in titrations. The lead sulphide sensing pellet produces a potential change due to the ion exchange between the inorganic pellet membrane and the sample. The internal sensing elements are housed within a durable epoxy body.
- Solid state sensor
- Detection from 0.21 to 20,700 mg/L Pb2+
- For use with HI-5315 reference half-cell
The HI-4012 is a lead/sulphate half-cell ISE.
This electrode has a 1m cable and BNC connector.
The internal elements are isolated from the sample by a compressed lead sulphide sensing membrane. This solid state sensor requires a separate reference electrode (HI-5315) to complete the measurement system.

Hanna’s solid state half-cell ISEs are designed for use with the HI-5315 reference half-cell. The reference half-cell features a cone style junction. The skirted cone geometry of the reference forms the liquid junction with the test solution at the tip of the junction cone, producing a highly stable reference potential and consistent flow rates of electrolyte into the solution. A simple press of the top portion of the ISE makes it easy to empty the electrolyte fill solution and replace when necessary.
For the HI-4012 to measure lead accurately, it is important that the ionic strength of the standards and sample be adjusted to a high and constant value with the lead ionic strength adjuster (ISA) solution. The ISA ensures that the activity coefficient is constant so the concentration of free lead ions can be measured.
Measuring all solutions with a constant ionic strength reduces the margin of error between measurements. The HI-4012 lead/sulphate solid state ISE can measure from 1µM (0.21 mg/L) to 0.1M (20,700 mg/L).
The HI-4012 can also be used as an indicator to follow the progress and detect the endpoint of a precipitation titration of sulphate. During the titration, the lead/sulphate ISE follows the lead concentration while a lead perchlorate solution is used to titrate the sample. The lead in the titrant solution reacts with the sulphate ions present in the sample to form a precipitate. Once all of the lead and sulphate ions have reacted, a change in mV occurs to signal the endpoint, and ultimately the sulphate concentration.
